Vision
The vision of the SAVE ENERGY project is defined as “creating awareness of Energy efficiency through the use of virtual and real-life scenarios”. The project elements are the scenarios Real Time Information and the Serious Game and a description of the chosen pilots. After the pilot testing period, results analysis is elaborated as soon as the first results from the pilots are clear. The pilot results analysis will as an overview cover three main areas; the energy consumption monitoring, behaviour transformation and performance indicators. Also conclusive knowledge and information will be included in the pilot results analysis. Download document
Energy Efficiency Observatory
The aim is to establish a Task Force within the consortium with expertise in energy. This task force will be supported by desk research of monitoring activities along with the results of the activities of external integration with projects best practices/policies/communities. The gathered information is analyzed and processed before being distributed amongst the consortium and will public domain. Here it is provided the Observatory Function Plan as well as the methodology for its implementation. Download document
Energy Audit Methodology and Procedures
An Energy Audit is defined as a systematic procedure that obtains knowledge of the existing energy consumption profile of the building, identifies the factors that have an effect on the energy consumption and identifies and scales the cost effective saving opportunities. Here is provided guidelines for conducting an energy audit in a public building and clarification of the needed information and measures that are recommended to be included into the process. The methodology provided is based on the Finnish Energy Audit Program, which is run by a Finnish state owned company Motiva Oy. Download document
Open, Service-oriented Archetecture for Energy Effiency Management System
This architecture document contributes to collecting, structuring, and integrating the initial set of concepts to be further developed for experimentation in the project. This is not a technical design architecture but a structure to support the usability experiments and the collection of data and findings. Guiding questions that are assumed for the SAVE ENERGY architecture are the following:
- How do SAVE ENERGY systems interact and change the energy consumption behaviour of individual users in public buildings?Do serious game interactions stimulate user behaviour to
decrease energy usage? - What organizational behaviour change is needed for public organisations for the adoption of SAVE ENERGY solutions?
- What is the business behaviour change associated with the adoption of SAVE ENERGY solutions by the supplying industry? Download document
Demonstrator for the Energy Efficiency Management Platform
ISA’s iCenter middleware platform was used and adapted as a least common denominator that would aggregate multi-origin, multi-parametric data. The iCenter acts as a data sieve where data is categorized into different types, and where data can be made uniform to be used by upper common levels of the Save Energy architecture, such as the Serious Gaming platform, and other data presentation applications.
The iCenter is an ISA service designed to receive data from remote metering locations. It has a tagging feature that will allow the project to document and homogenize the data from the five pilot locations. In the present document, an introduction to ISA’s iCenter will be made, together with a description of its main functionalities. In the annexes section, there is a manual for data interaction between the pilot owner and the database. Furthermore, ISA has developed for the SAVE ENERGY project an open version of the iCenter, from now on described as iCenter Open Source (OS). The release of such a software piece, can trigger the usage of a versatile middleware in other projects as well, the improvement of the existing platform.
Dashboard and Serious Game and Client
Here is described the frontend for the SAVE ENERGY serious game, officially known as ‘Green My Place’ (GMP). The document briefly describes the frontend and lists its parts and where they can be accessed (online). The major concepts of the frontend, and brief guidelines for use, are included. The frontend has been developed in a spiral model, in concert with iterative game and architecture design. Thus the various prototypes for the frontend are also described, illustrating how the interaction, graphic and functionality design has evolved. Download document
Serious Game Server
With the alterations in the design of the GMP game, the purpose of the server task was also altered. Not only would the server now be storing player scores, but it would also host the entire game, in the sense that it would meet requests from the player’s web browser for the content of the web portal and mini-games. It would also need to communicate in duplex with the ISA iCenter pilot data server. This document describes the server for the SAVE ENERGY serious game, officially known as ‘Green My Place’ (GMP). It briefly describes the server and lists its parts and where they can be accessed (online). The major concepts of the server, and brief guidelines for examination, are included. Download document
Pilots Implementation
The following documents describe the pilots implementation. Each one of the pilots faced different challenges and obstacles, from the change of pilot site in Manchester to the sub-metering solutions of Leiden. It is presented a description of the technological solutions implemented with the objective of achieving energy efficiency through behaviour transformation.
Project Brochure
The SAVE ENERGY Brochure corresponds to one of the dissemination tools of the project. An important aim of the SAVE ENERGY project is to achieve its potential impact at European level, with the consortium and much wider communities utilizing an effective communication plan and also traditional tools such as brochures, leaflets, newsletters, portal and also tools using Web 2.0 services. The SAVE ENERGY brochure aims to support the awareness and promotion of the SAVE ENERGY project, its vision and concept. The design of the brochure revolves around the concept of a high quality cover that allows the inclusion of loose single pages within. This approach permits the composition of a brochure according to the SAVE ENERGY audience and events. Download document
